Build An Effective Skincare Routine – The Right Way

An effective skincare routine is becoming a dominant part of our lives. Once getting hooked on it, there’s no going back to the days when we thought skincare was exaggerated.

Even now, some people might think that skincare is a waste of time and money and they can’t be more wrong about it.

Caring for your skin is not a time waste and is worth every penny if you do it correctly.

Our day-to-day life directly affects our skin. How much we eat, what we eat, how much water we drink in a day, or the places where we go, everything is responsible for the condition of our skin.

Skincare routine will nullify any adverse effects that our skin goes through.

Skin care also doesn’t have to be high-maintenance or expensive. Drugstore products work perfectly fine once you know that they are well-suited for your skin.

An effective skincare regime will consist of all the core elements.

We shall learn about the same below – what these products are, their importance, and how to use them.

Route To Build An Effective Skincare Routine

Step 1 – Cleanser

Cleansers are products we use to remove the build-up of dirt, makeup, oils, dead skin cells, and more!

Cleansing is the most popular first step of anyone’s skincare routine. Regular cleansing will maintain a healthy-looking and feeling skin. Excessive dirt buildup on the surface of the skin can cause blockages of the pores, which allows bacteria to penetrate causing inflammation, which in turn can cause acne.

A cleanser that goes well with your skin will remove dirt, oil, and other unwanted elements on your face. In addition to this, the cleanser helps in boosting hydration and moisturization as compared to your typical face washes.

The primary focus of a cleanser is to clean our skin without stripping the necessary layers of skin.

Generally, cleansing can be done once in the morning and once during your nighttime skincare routine. Cleanse your face after a workout to prevent acne breakouts and clogged pores. Look out for your skin as excessive cleansing can lead to skin irritation.

Step 2 – Toner

After cleansing and removing unwanted specks or residual makeup on your face, toners provide a healthy layer to better absorb the rest of your skincare products. Although they can be considered optional, toners are a good way to replenish your skin and add additional nutrients to it.

A toner should be applied after cleansing your face.

Cleanse your face, pat it dry with a clean towel and then apply the toner.

Usually, toners can be applied with a soft pad or cotton ball.  Soak the pad or cotton ball with toner to ensure it is damp, but not soaking wet.

Gently spread the toner on your face and neck using a pad or cotton ball.  Avoid the eye area and lips. Pay special attention to the hard-to-reach areas such as the eyebrows, hairline, and sides of the nose.

Step 3 – Serums

Serums have seen the biggest growth in the beauty market. If you’re looking to go the extra mile to repair and protect to get younger, healthier-looking skin, then serum is the best option for you.

Serums are available for every skin issue. Be it acne, blemishes, dark spots, or aging, you’ll find serums induced with niacinamide, retinoids, and vitamins to overcome these problems.

One single serum can provide multiple benefits, just like an anti aging serum with vitamin c will make your skin appear younger, reduce the signs of wrinkles and fine lines and make the skin glow and look brighter.

The anti-aging serum with vitamin c will penetrate deep into your skin and will deliver powerful Ingredients to it directly. This makes serum a great means for dealing with specific skin concerns.

Serums are generally applied after toners. Apply it using your fingers patting it on and smoothing it out. Ensure full coverage of your face, while letting the serum absorb into your skin.

Step 4 – Moisturizer

Moisturizers are one of the prime components of an effective skincare routine.

The main goal of a moisturizer is to hydrate the skin and leave your skin feeling extremely soft to the touch. Moisturizers can sometimes have an SPF, which helps in protecting the skin from the sun.

A moisturizer can be applied in the morning or night. A moisturizer should be applied as the last step just before the makeup is applied. Apply the moisturizer just after putting on the serum, before makeup application.

For the nighttime routine, apply moisturizer as the final step before going to bed.  The application should be after the serum. If a serum or toner is not being applied, apply moisturizer after cleansing your face.

Use fingers to spread moisturizer in key areas on the face such as the forehead, nose, chin, cheeks, and neck.

Begin patting the moisturizer into the skin using a swirling motion until the moisturizer is absorbed into your skin.  Wait for the moisturizer to dry before applying makeup.

Step 5 – Sunscreen

Everybody knows how important sunscreen is to an effective skincare regime. Your daytime routine isn’t complete until you spray or apply sunscreen to your face as well as your body.

It offers several benefits to get young and healthy skin. It helps in preventing and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It also prevents any discoloration or hyperpigmentation. An effective sunblock will also safeguard you from the risks of getting skin cancer and decrease its development.

Apply a healthy layer of your sunblock before you go out in the sun. Reapply once you feel all the sunscreen earlier applied is absorbed.

Wrapping Up

A few things you should consider before buying products for your skincare are the ingredients used in them and your skin type.

Everyone has a different skin type. What may work for others might not work for you and vice versa.

Similarly, look for the ingredients infused in the products before you purchase them. It’s better to find out about the ingredients you’re allergic to before buying.

If any product causes skin irritation, redness, or itchiness, consult a dermatologist immediately.

Purchase products considering the above-mentioned factors and voila, you’ve built an effective skincare routine that just works the best for you.
