I actually prefer using serums for various reasons, but when I first got one – I was a little confused as to WHAT it was. So we’ll go over that really quick.
Face serums are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin. A serum won’t replace your moisturizer, but they will boost your anti-aging results and overall skin health when used morning and evening. Moisturizers typically have emollients and thickeners added which give them their creamy texture, and several have SPF. Serums don’t have SPF or the creamy texture. Instead of SPF, emollients or thickeners, serums are packed with beneficial ingredients or more antioxidants.
For some skin types (like oily skin) a serum CAN replace your moisturizer, but I do still recommend finding an SPF product to use with it. Serums do not contain SPF and I seriously cannot stress enough how important SPF is, even on a cloudy, yucky day.
So now you know a little more about serums – the next step is finding the right one for you. As I said, serums are packed with beneficial ingredients or antioxidants to help boost your skin’s health and target specific things you want to improve. For example, hyaluronic acid helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while Vitamin C brightens the skin and helps reduce the appearance of pigmentation and age spots.
