Along with drinking lots of water and never popping a zit, washing our faces before bedtime is basically one of the laws of essential skincare—while next-day eyeliner can look sexy as hell, residual makeup (not to mention oil, dirt, and other gunk from the day's activities) can clog pores and leave us more prone to breakouts. But the writers at Mimi brought up a good point that now has us questioning everything: Does this constant cycle of applying and removing cosmetics leave us more prone to wrinkles?
Dermatologist Marianne Pistilli confirmed to the site that vigorous scrubbing on a daily basis could lead to some wear and tear. The good news, however, is that the fix is easy: Simply use a gentle cleansing approach, and you shouldn't have a problem. For us, this means only exfoliating once or twice a week (seriously, this alone is a game changer) and, in the meantime, picking either soft makeup removal wipes or practicing a softer touch with a more traditional cleanser.
