Donna DeForbs from the Blog Eco-Mothering talks about one or her favorite natural skicare lines:
Today I want to tell you about Bard & Finch, a family-owned company on the coast of Maine, surrounded by vibrant finches and chatty barred owls. Their focus?Harnessing nature’s nutrients to create nourishing products for healthy skin.
Skin is our body’s largest organ and often reflects our health. The role of skin involves:
Healthy skin isn’t a guarantee, especially as we age; we need to care for it properly. Applying lotion or oil after a bath or shower helps to seal in necessary moisture and to maintain an external barrier to germs. Skin products with anti-inflammatories and antioxidants stimulate cell renewal. Your skin acts a sponge, absorbing everything it comes in contact with—so let it come in contact with quality, non-toxic ingredients.
Personally, I love the Unscented Face Oil. I dab it on the skin around my eyes and my forehead (areas that seem to exhibit early lines) in the morning. The Flax and Oatmeal Scrub was a big hit with my daughter and nieces. I brought out the jar, and they lined up for foot massages. My sister wanted in on the action too, and she sighed in heavenly delight. The scrub has a lovely light scent and simple ingredients: sugar, sunflower oil, avocado oil, flax seed powder and colloidal oatmeal. The Juniper Berry Dead Sea Bath Salts (how awesome is it that enjoying a soaking bath is considered part of my workday research?) left me relaxed and sweet smelling and also seemed to soothe the eczema on my hand.
What you put on the outside of your skin is one aspect of nurturing it. Remember, what you feed yourself also affects every part of your body, so choose foods that nourish the skin. With a nutrient-rich diet plus natural skin care products, you can pack a one-two punch in maintaining glowing, healthy skin.
